Common questions about Form 843, Claim for Refund or Abatement in Lacerte

 To generate Form 843:

  1. Go to Screen 61, Claim of Refund (843).
  2. Check the box, Print Form 843 with complete return.
  3. Scroll down to the Claim/Request Information section.
  4. Enter the Amount to be refunded or abated.
  5. Select the Type of tax (Ctrl+T) from the dropdown menu.
  6. Select the Type of return (Ctrl+T) from the dropdown menu.
  7. Complete all other applicable information.
 

Form 843 does not offset any tax liability calculated on Form 1040.
