Electronic payment of federal estimates for an individual return in ProConnect

SOLVEDby IntuitProConnect Tax18Updated March 17, 2022

Federal estimates can be paid electronically in Intuit ProConnect. However, this feature is only available for electronically filed returns, and must be set up before sending the return. This information will automatically be included in the client letter. Your federal estimated tax payments will be directly withdrawn from your bank account according to the estimated tax payment schedule.

ProConnect Support doesn't have records of whether or not electronic payments of estimated taxes are being withdrawn. For information about, or to cancel a payment, call the IRS e-file Payment Services at 1-888-353-4537 (wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling). Refer to IRS Pay Taxes by Electronic Funds Withdrawal in the Cancelation, Errors, and Questions section for more information.

Before you start

  • Electronic payment of federal estimates can only be set up by e-filing the federal return.
  • Paper filed 1040 returns must mail estimate vouchers, Form 1040-ES.
  • Federal estimate payment information will only be transmitted with the e-filed tax return (not with extensions or transmitted separately).

Follow these steps to set up electronic payments:

  1. Go to the Input Return tab.
  2. From the left of the screen, select General and choose Misc. Info./Direct Deposit.
  3. Mark the checkbox labeled Electronic payment of estimated tax.
  4. Scroll down to Financial Institution #1.
  5. Enter the Routing Transit Number, Depositor Account Number, and select the Type of account from the dropdown menu.
  6. Go to the Check Return tab.
  7. Make sure all information is generating correctly on the e-file Payment Record form.

Additional information

  • The federal estimate payment information will be sent when you e-file the federal return. The estimate payment information isn't included with the filing of the extension.
  • ProConnect has no records if electronic payments of estimated taxes are being withdrawn.
    • To find out or cancel a payment, call the IRS e-file Payment Services at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
    • Refer to the IRS Pay Taxes by Electronic Funds Withdrawal under the Cancelation, Errors, and Questions section for more information.
