Troubleshooting ProSeries error - This file a read-only file

Problem

When trying open one file or any file in ProSeries Professional or ProSeries Basic, the following error generates: 

"This file is a read-only file and will be opened for viewing only."

Security software products, such as those designed to detect and protect computers against malware or viruses, have been known to cause this situation.

Exclude ProSeries from its processes using the steps in this article. This should enable the software to read the data file(s).

If the security software doesn't provide a way to exclude ProSeries, then you may need to uninstall the security software product to regain access.

If you're not comfortable uninstalling the security software—or you're not sure how to do this—we suggest contacting a local technician for further assistance.
