Changing computers for EasyACCT

SOLVEDby IntuitUpdated 3 days ago

This article will cover how to copy company data files to a new computer as well as an error message that the "company has been converted to a later version" after installing the program to a new machine requires internet updates be applied to the new machine.

If you are installing EasyACCT onto a new computer, always install the latest Internet Update.

Although you can copy and paste data files, you cannot copy and paste program files from one computer to another.  The program must be installed for Windows to update the registry and recognize the program.

Copy data files in EasyACCT:

If you are sharing data on a network, please see the special instructions further down.

  1. Go to the Company Selection screen.
  2. Right-click on the company and select Copy Company.
  3. In the Destination field, select the drop down menu to see a list of drives and select a removable storage drive (i.e. flash, CD, etc.).
  4. Select the drive and click OK.
  5. Remove the storage device and go to the other computer.
  6. Open EasyACCT.
  7. From the Company Selection screen, note the  Current Data Path (i.e. C:\EASYW\DATA)
  8. Change the Current Data Path to the removable storage drive (i.e. D:). Press Enter.
  9. Right-click on the company and select Copy Company.
  10. For the Destination, use the path from step 7. Click OK.
  11. Change the Current Data Path from the removable storage drive to the path from step 7.  Press Enter.

If you are sharing data on a network in EasyACCT:

  1. If the data files are on a network, simply change the default data path on the new computer to the shared path.
  2. Make note of the Company Data Path on the Company Selection screen from the old computer (i.e. X:\EASYW\DATA).
  3. Go to System > System Utilities > System Characteristics > Main tab.
  4. Change the Path for Company Data to the one from the old computer's Company Data Path.
    • When you map the new computer to the network, the drive letter may be different on the old computer versus the new computer. For example, the X: drive on the old computer might be mapped as the Y: drive on the new computer. If you have any questions about computer mappings, please consult with your network administrator.
