How to enter Alabama PTE tax in Lacerte

This article will help you report the Alabama elective pass-through entity tax (sometimes called PTE, PTET, or SALT workaround) and the resulting credit in Intuit Lacerte.

To claim the credit on an Individual return:

  1. Go to Screen 57.401, Alabama Other.
  2. Scroll down to the Alabama Payments section.
  3. Complete the table for Composite payments and elect PTE credits (Ctrl+E).

The credit will flow to Schedule CP, from there to line 26 of Form 40.

To generate the PTE for a Partnership:

  1. Go to Screen 37.401, Alabama Miscellaneous Information.
  2. Scroll down to the Electing Pass-through Entity Tax (PTE) section.
  3. Check the box for Electing EPT.
  4. Complete additional fields as needed.

This will flow to the Alabama EPT, as well as the EPT-K1.

To generate the PTE for an S-Corporation:

  1. Go to Screen 42.401, Alabama Miscellaneous.
  2. Scroll down to the Electing Pass-through Entity Tax section.
  3. Check the box for Electing EPT.
  4. Complete additional fields as needed.

This will flow to the Alabama EPT, as well as the EPT-K1.
