How to resolve Lacerte diagnostic ref. 45899

SOLVEDby IntuitUpdated November 20, 2023

This article explains how to resolve the following diagnostic:

  • Enter the greater of the New York State capital base tax or the fixed dollar minimum tax. (ref. #45899)

To resolve this diagnostic

Starting in 2016, this diagnostic will trigger when the amount on Form CT-3, Page 4, Part 3, Line 17 isn't accurate, due to an incorrect override entry.

  1. Go to Screen 48.091, New York State NOL.
  2. Locate the field Greater of the capital base tax or the fixed dollar minimum tax for the current period [O] (input sheet code 96).
  3. Remove the amount entered.
    • Once removed, the amount can be verified.
  4. Go to Form CT-3, page 3, line 1b and 1c and make note of the larger of these two amounts.
  5. Go back to Screen 48.091, New York State NOL.
  6. Locate the field Greater of the capital base tax or the fixed dollar minimum tax for the current period [O] (input sheet code 96).
  7. Enter the amount noted in this field.
  8. View Form CT-3, Page 4, Part 3, Line 17 to verify the amount appearing there is the difference between lines 15 and 16 and the diagnostic has been cleared.

Starting in 2015, the diagnostic is triggered when Form CT-3.3, Page 2, Line 3 doesn't equal the greater of the amounts on Form CT-3, Page 3, Part 2, Lines 1b or 1c.

  1. Go to Form CT-3, page 3, part 2. Look at line 1b and 1c amounts to identify the larger of the two.
  2. Go to Screen 48.091, New York State NOL.
  3. Enter the Greater of the capital base tax or the fixed dollar minimum tax for the current period (input sheet code 96).
    • This is the larger of the two amounts identified in step 1.

If the wrong amount is entered, or additional data is entered that increases the amounts on line 1b or 1c, the diagnostic will reappear (causing the amount entered here to be different than the calculated amount).
