Generating Form 8858 for a Corporate or S-Corporation return in Lacerte

This article will assist you with generating Form 8858 in the Corporate or S-Corporate module of Lacerte. Follow the applicable set of instructions for your tax type below:

Follow these steps to generate Form 8858 in the Corporate module:

  1. Go to Screen 78, Foreign Disregarded Entities (8858).
  2. Check the box labeled Print Form 8858 with return.
  3. Select the appropriate option for Owner / Operator / Interest Holder (MANDATORY).
  4. Complete any other applicable items on this screen.
  5. Go to Screen 4.1, Miscellaneous Information.
  6. Scroll down to the Foreign Operations of U.S. Corporations (Schedule N) section.
  7. Make sure there isn't anything entered in the Number of Forms 8858 attached [O] field.
    • If there's a number entered here, remove it.
    • If you make an entry in this field, Lacerte assumes you’ve completed the forms elsewhere and are going to attach them to the tax return manually. This will print on Schedule N, line 1b.
  8. Enter the Number of Forms 8865 attached, if applicable.

Follow these steps to generate Form 8858 in the S-Corporate module:

  1. Go to Screen 71, Foreign Disregarded Entities (8858).
  2. Check the box labeled Print Form 8858 with return.
  3. Select the appropriate option for Owner / Operator / Interest Holder (MANDATORY).
  4. Complete any other applicable items on this screen.
  5. Go to Screen 3.1, Miscellaneous Information.
  6. Scroll down to the Foreign Operations of U.S. Corporations (Schedule N) section.
  7. Make sure there isn't anything entered in the Number of Forms 8858 attached [O] field.
    • If there's a number entered here, remove it.
    • If you make an entry in this field, Lacerte assumes you’ve completed the forms elsewhere and are going to attach them to the tax return manually. This will print on Schedule N, line 1b.
  8. Enter the Number of Forms 8865 attached, if applicable.
