"No updates found" when trying to bring ProSeries up-to-date

SOLVEDby Intuit6Updated 1 month ago

Before you start:

  • This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.

If you suspect your ProSeries Basic or ProSeries Professional products aren't up-to-date and need to verify your software versions:

  1. From the Help menu, select About ProSeries (or About ProSeries Basic).
  2. Select the Versions tab.
  3. Make a note of the version number for the forms that may be out of date.
  4. Open the ProSeries Tax form finder page.
  5. Click on the README column for the same form.
  6. Compare the version number's between the two.

If your versions do not match and running updates gives you a message saying No ProSeries Updates Found this article will help you resolve the error.

Repair Updates:

This situation may occur if ProSeries Professional or ProSeries Basic version tracking files have been damaged, thereby preventing your software from identifying if new updates are available. This should only be used if the steps above have been completed to make sure these files are out of sync. The Repair Updates feature will attempt to repair these files:

From the Start menu

  1. Click on the Windows Start button in the lower-left corner of the screen.
  2. In the Search field, type "Repair Updates".
    • If you're refreshing updates for tax year 2018 or prior ProSeries, type "ProSeries Refresh Updates", instead.
  3. From the results, select the Tools - Repair Updates option (or ProSeries Refresh Updates) for the relevant tax year.

If the version numbers are still out-of-date after repairing the updates continue to the next troubleshooting step below.

In the case of a ProSeries network version, this same issue may occur if you are attempting to update and your computer is having difficulty installing updates to a mapped network drive.  If you are experiencing this issue and ProSeries is installed to a mapped drive on the office network, please see the following article for assistance: ProSeries Professional Network Utility for Mapped Drives. If the ProSeries Network Utility does not resolve the issue, or if it's irrelevant to your installation continue to the next troubleshooting step.

If you are aware of which state or federal form type is not updating this section will help you remove and reinstall just that module, such as New York Individual or Federal 1065. To be able to use these steps at least one Federal Product must remain installed. This will not impact client data files.

  1. Close ProSeries 20YY.
  2. In the Windows Search type Control Panel.
  3. In the Control Panel choose Uninstall a Program.
  4. Double click on ProSeries 20YY (or ProSeries Basic Edition 20YY) in the list.
  5. Select the module that is not be downloading updates and click Uninstall. Make sure at least one Federal module remains installed.
  6. A message will report when the module has been successfully removed.  Click OK to close the Uninstall window.
  7. Open ProSeries.
  8. From the Updates menu, select Select and Download New Products.
  9. Check the box beside the module you removed and click Next.PCG_PS_SelectandDownload.png
  10. When the download completes, select Install Now.
  11. Once the installation has been completed, your software product will be updated to the latest available ProSeries release.
  12. If the issue continues to happen see the next troubleshooting section.

If the above solution did not work, you may need to do what is commonly referred to as a clean install of the program. This will replace any damaged components without impacting client files. See Performing a clean install of ProSeries for step by step details.

When selecting the state in ProSeries Professional, you may receive a message saying that the state isn't installed in the program—but 1040 individual and state products have been installed.

Or, after updating a state form, a toolbar continues to appear saying the form isn't updated, when the Read Me information says it's ready/final.

How do I resolve this issue?

The instructions below are only for ProSeries Professional.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Uninstall the state formset.
  2. Use File Explorer to browse to the ProSeries forms folder.
    • The default folder is C:\ProWinYYForms, where YY represents the two-digit tax year.
  3. Right-click on the the state_YYi folder, if present, and select Delete to completely remove the state formset.
  4. Browse to the ProSeries Updates folder.
    • The default folder is C:\ProwinYYUpdates.
  5. Right-click and Delete all files in this folder, except the details.htm file. This is typically the first file listed in this folder.
  6. Open ProSeries.
  7. From the Update menu, choose Select and Download New Products.
  8. Mark the checkbox for the uninstalled state.
  9. Click the OK button to download and install the state again.
