When Filing MFS can one spouse claim Standard Deduction of $24000?

When married filing separately, can one of the spouses take the entire $24,000 standard deduction in his/her return? And the other spouse claim no deducion at all?  if yes, how do I set up Proseries to reflect the standard $24,000 deduction in one return and no deductions in the other returns? and be able to file electronically?

No. The Standard Deduction for MFS is $12,000. One spouse cannot take $24,000.

There is not an option in ProSeries for the Standard Deduction to be fully applied to one return vs the other.

The only choice in the software around this topic at all is when a return is Married Filing Seperatly and the Spouse itemized deductions.  There is a checkbox for this on the Federal Informaiton Worksheet Part X.

Thanks for responding!  And just to confirm, does the IRS allows for one tax payer MFS to take the entire $24,000 standard deduction?
