HOH Filing Status When Different between State/Fed

Hi we have run into some pretty bad situations when Head Of House filing status is different from Fed vs State. 

For example: the federal threshold for the amount a dependent can make is larger than CA state threshold meaning taxpayers can qualify for HOH federally but not state. Lacerte does not have a way to make this distinction. So if I file HOH it will only allow HOH for both returns and thus result in an adjustment to tax owed by the state later down the line.  If lacerte could program a way that we could make this distinction that would be amazing.

I have CA clients contacting me about HOH being denied.  ProSeries final review of the CA return missed this.  I would think the review process would catch this. Doesn't make us preparers look good.
