Form 8990 Addition

mfriedman

Form 8990 is associated with Individual Returns where the taxpayer receives a K-1 from a Partnership for Business Interest or Excess Interest.  This form is currently unavailable in ProSeries Professional which is most curious.  My suggestion is simply to add this form in future years.

Why do we pay for Proseries if it doesn't have all the forms that we need to prepare an accurate return?

I can't believe that Lacerte has the Form 8990 in the Form 1040 program, but Proseries doesn't.

I guess after using Proseries for over 30 years it's time for me to find a better product!

Lacerte costs a lot more than ProSeries, too.

And how many of your 1040s actually need the 8990?

It doesn't matter how many. The 8990 is a complicated tedious form. I dumped a client for 2021 because of his predilection for  investing in PTP's among other higher end investments. I am having to prepare 8990 by PDF and upload for efiling.

Absolutely we need to be able to prepare the 8990 on ProSeries!! There seem to be more and more forms that ProSeries doesn't even provide. With each year I am looking more closely at leaving ProSeries for not keeping up with the expanding needs and requirements of our tax laws. Even if I have to carry the numbers myself, at least add it to the list of forms.  This is not an occasional thing, I need the 8990 for many clients often.

I too am looking at other software. I have had enough of a lot of stuff Intuit has been doing. I was a QB ProAdvisor for years but I have let that lapse. I hate the new subscription format. I believe that if I buy software that it should be mine to use forever. Not everyone needs the latest or greatest. I am fine with software being unsupported after a while (I can buy a new version when that happens) but to tell me I have to keep paying subscription fees in order to keep using it is beyond the pale. Since I am older anyway, I have been downsizing the accounting side of my practice so that I don't have to  play that game.
