Can you define what "mixed status filing" means?  It's not a term or an election that is defined under the tax code.

If you are referring to a joint filing election with an NRA spouse who doesn't have an SSN that authorizes him/her for US employment, the economic impact payment will only take into account the taxpayer who is a US citizen/green card holder/foreign national with SSN authorized for US employment as well as any qualifying children he/she may have.

Publications like the Wall Street Journal, Christian Science Monitor and Miami Herald seem to have picked up the term "mixed status" when answering "economic impact" payment questions involving non-citizens.  Maybe it came from this PowerPoint presentation hosted on the IRS website:

Looks like I'm really out of touch.  It turns out there are lots of academic journals with this term.  Learned something new (that is actually old) today.

I think the term was invented by Dept of Homeland Security.  You can't really say "Dual Status," because that's already taken.
