When trying to electronically File my Personal Return,  I am a federal e-filer.   I stated the return was self prepared and also changed to preparer.   I keep getting an error that the paid prepares   EIN number is not valid,  as I file using my SS #   I do not have an EIN number.   I did not have this problem last year.

Any Suggestions.   JKF

Many of us have given up on filing "Self Prepared" returns for our personal returns because of the time wasted trying to file that way. I spent hours one year on my return and finally found that it was because I did not have my telephone number on the worksheet.  Why would I have my number there when I know what it is? It wasn't worth 2 hours of my time.

You should be using a PTIN not a SSN...

Are you sure its not a PTIN or EFIN error?

It is an EIN  error,  I don't file taxes with an EIN,  I use my Social Security number but the program knows the difference and pushes an error.

Once I typed an EIN number in the field it let me electronically file.
