Taxpayer died on 12/30/16. A year later receives a W-2 dated 2017. What do I do with it?

I tried to file a 2017 return for him as MFS.  The IRS denied it.

The company that he worked for messed up.  Since dead guys have trouble endorsing payroll tax checks down at the bank, the payment should have been made to his beneficiary and the income should have been reported on a 1099 to the beneficiary.
