Rejection due to death of taxpayer

The spouse of a client died in March of 2020,  We filed the 2019 return in April of 2020 and reported that the spouse was deceased at the time of filing.  When trying to file the 2020 return we get a rejection stating the the deceased social security number is locked by the Social Security Administration because he is deceased.  How are we able to E-file the 2020 return as he was still alive for part of 2020?  Do we need to just paper file it?
