Sometimes SSA locks out the SSN, but otherwise, yes.

The average age of my client base is about 114 so it isn’t that unusual for me to file returns for deceased folks and I don’t recall having any issues e-filing those returns .  Of course you can’t e-file any returns for dead or living folks right now since the IRS has e-filing shutdown until January.

Thank you ALL for the quick responses.  I've got two married clients that each have one spouse that has passed away.  So I will try to e-file those returns during tax season.  Happy Thanksgiving to ALL.

Lisa - If the error code for e-file says that SSA has locked the SSN, there is no way to e-file?  Don't want to wait for an hour for technical service if this is going to be the answer...
