Net investment interest expense not flowing to 8960

Net investment interest expense is on Sch A line 9. However it is not appearing on the form 8960 line 9a. There is a magnifying glass on line 9a that links to Sch A line 9. But the amount on sch A does not flow to the 8960. Proseries says that basically all lines are auto-populated.

Is a blank line 9a on the Form 8960 correct?  The standard deduction was higher than the itemized deductions.

If you're not itemizing then Schedule A is not part of the tax return.  Since your interest expense was not deducted for regular tax purposes it would not be deducted for NIIT purposes either.

Just for kicks, check the box on the Info Wks to force itemized deductions and see how it changes your 8960.
