I keep getting an error message when I try to enter tax year 2020 on the 1099-G worksheet.  These benefits were paid in 2020 and reported on the 1099-G.

If it is for unemployment compensation I believe you do not have to enter the year it assumes It Is 2020. If it is for a state or local tax refund the year should be 2019 since line three says box 2 amount is for tax year , and the tax year is 2019... double check what I said since this is just my opinion

Are you entering the year on Line 3 --- that is only if there is an amount repaid 😊   (been there done that)
