Form 8867 Section 5, Force Diagnostics if blank

The increased fines for incorrectly filling out 8867 should be a big concern for tax preparers. It would be great if Lacerte gave an informational diagnostic if section 5. "List of Documents provided by taxpayer that you relied on:" is not filled in. The IRS is now wanting Tax Preparers to verify that dependents are a real person and that the tax payer provided care for that dependent. Our office treats it similar to a HOH audit by asking for items like, Birth Certificates, Social Security Cards, School Records, Insurance Documents, Immunization Card, Student ID. Anything that can show that the tax payer provided care for the dependent and that they really exist.
