In past years, I would send a PDF copy of Form 8879 and the corresponding state e-file form (if applicable) and ask the client to sign it if they were ready to file their returns -- most clients would scan a copy of a wet signature form to me, while a few would send a scan of a e-signed copy.
This year, I want to just sent my clients an Adobe Sign document so they can e-sign these forms in one step and not have to worry about printing out a form, then scanning it back to my portal after signing it. But now I am learning all about Knowledge Based Authentication (KBA) and my head is spinning.
Is this stuff necessary? Why is the IRS concerned about the identity of the client -- if I am sending an efile form to them, I should be reasonably confident they are the client, right??
