No receipt, no deduction.

ex-AllStar, ex-Lutefisk taste taster, ex-ACME product tester
and ex marks the spot where those rocks and anvils hit me.

Most churches will give you documentation to substantiate your donations.

I do have clients that tell me they put $5 a week in the collection plate each Sunday, I will give them the deduction for it.

But that doesn't cut it.  You need a receipt or a check.  Saying you put $5 a week in a plate doesn't count.

Agree with Jeff that clients need to have documentation to claim any deduction.  It's in our EL, organizer, and transmittal letter.  No way they can miss it.

@247 In addition to the documentation requirement mentioned.  The church needs to be a 501(c) organization and not disqualified and quid pro quo contributions don't count.
