Can proseries increase the density of print on my HP 227 mfp?

Theres is a place in the Print options to print with darker fonts.  Ive never tried it, but couldnt hurt

That would generally be done with the printer settings. 

You can try the new ProSeries Tool Hub
https://proconnect.intuit.com/community/help-articles/help/fix-common-problems-and-errors-with-the-p... and have it do an update of the programs printer drivers, but my guess is you need set a new default printer setting.
