8889s error problem / HSA issue

JML222
Level 4

Have a problem with an error. Using Pro Basic, entered W2 info which includes Box 12 information of code W and amount of $2400. This amount transfers to Form 8889S (spouses W2) and final review says there is an error on 8889S and I need to select Self Only or Family on Line 1 for HDHP coverage.

The problem is Line 1 is for HDHP and the person is covered by an employer-paid plan, not an HDHP plan. So selecting anything on Line 1 would be a false statement. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It needs to be a High Deductible Health Plan to qualify for an HSA...since this is all through the employer,  are you sure the employer provided plan isn't an HDHP?  If it wasnt I cant imagine that the employer would offer the HSA.
