Paying taxes owed by CHECK

Hi --

My client would like to file her return electronically, but she owes money to both the IRS and the State of California, and she does not want them to withdraw the funds from her bank account.

Can she file electronically but pay by check?  If so, how?

Thank you!

Yes, if you don't check for bank debit on the info worksheets, the program will print vouchers to mail in.  The Client letter should have mailing instructions.

However, for California

Electronic payments are required if you either:

  • Make an estimated tax or extension payment over $20,000
  • File an original return with a tax liability over $80,000
