What are the system requirements for ProSeries for tax year 2023?

Below are the recommended and minimum system requirements for tax year 2023. We strongly suggest using the recommended system requirements if you have more than 1,000 client files, if the federal 1040 and all individual states are installed, or if you prepare large, complex returns.

Windows Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 will no longer be a supported operating system for ProSeries 2023. Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 will reach the end of support by Microsoft on October 10, 2023. See here for more information.

Standalone system requirements

Below are system requirements for 2023 ProSeries Professional, 2023 ProSeries Basic, 2023 Fixed Asset Manager, and Document Management System.

  • While some customers run ProSeries in a Windows emulation environment (i.e Virtual Machine) on the Apple MacOS operating system, support for this type of install may be limited. What's new for 2019

  • ProSeries will follow a similar schedule as Microsoft and will end support for Windows 7 in tax year 2019.
  • ProSeries will only support 64-bit operating systems and processors in tax year 2019.
  • ProSeries will partner with Right Networks to begin supporting a Cloud (Hosted) environment. Refer to this link for more information.

Additional information

  • Internet Explorer 9 must be installed for Windows Vista. Microsoft will stop supporting Windows Vista on 4/11/17.  So, ProSeries won't be supported on Windows Vista after 4/11/17.
  • 64-bit versions of MS Office will be incompatible with certain ProSeries features.
  • We can't guarantee that ProSeries products/solutions will function properly on operating systems, software, and hardware we don't support. ProSeries Technical Support won't be able to help customers solve problems on unsupported environments in tax year 2016, or prior tax years.
  • While some customers run ProSeries in a Windows emulation environment (Virtual Machine) on the Apple MacOS (formerly Mac OS X) operating system, support for this type of install may be limited. Customers using the Apple MacOS may wish to use the Intuit ProConnect Tax Online instead of or in addition to ProSeries. See for more information on ProConnect Tax Online.
  • Network Attached Storage (NAS) isn't supported due to the lack of Microsoft Windows-based Operating System.
  • Terminal Servers and cloud (hosted) environments aren't supported.
