Error Code F1040-438: This reject was caused by a defect in the ability to process the return.  For Lacerte clients, please resubmit your return after updating to the most current version of the program.


PTO clients should also access and resubmit your returns. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused.


While this was due to a defect, we were able to identify this quickly and have issued an update to correct this. Please rest easy, these returns will be accepted now.


You will need to update your 2018 program to the most current version (39.0129). Once updated, please resubmit your returns, no further action is required.

Only impacted Federal returns with a third party designee issues.

PTO Update went out on 01/28 and everything has already been updated.

Yep, first time in 25 years I went 0 for 4 getting rejected. Did update and it worked.
