Hi,

I filed a 2019 S Corp return before 7/15/2020.

Just received a letter from IRS charged penalty for late filing.

Realized did not file extension before 3/15.

Does anyone know how to appeal? Is there a way to request wave the penalty?

thanks!

Unless two hours of your time listening to music on hold is worth less than a 55-cent stamp, a one-paragraph letter to IRS will accomplish the same result.  IRS is not going to be breaking down your client's doors to collect the penalty, while they process the correspondence.

Maybe a phone call will get a ONE TIME abatement https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/penalty-relief-due-to-first-time-penal...
