If you are mailing a paper 1040, the client needs to physically sign the 1040.

ex-AllStar, ex-Lutefisk taste taster, ex-ACME product tester
and ex marks the spot where those rocks and anvils hit me.

Yep, the IRS takes only wet signature and will otherwise bounce back the return.

The Efile signature authorization Form 8879 is only for Efiled returns that the tax professional is filing for you.
