PDF and Component Repair tools for Lacerte and ProSeries

These are several different repair tools that we offer for our Lacerte and ProSeries tax software products. Two of these tools are the PDF Repair tool and then Component Repair tool. For a list of what each of these tools does, please review the content listed under each tool's heading. If you are using a different web browser, you will not be able to follow these directions exactly.

It is highly recommended you have your IT specialist run this tool for you. The Component Repair tool is not designed to fix any issue with printers or printing.

What the Component Repair tool does for you:

  • Ends ProSeries/Lacerte background processes.
  • Ends MSIEXEC process and re-registers it.
  • Un-registers and re-registers MSXML4 and MSXML6 dlls.
  • Installs MSXML 4.0 SP3.
  • Stops/starts Windows Installer service.
  • Repairs C++ 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012 (ProSeries only)
  • Repairs Java Runtime (Lacerte only).
  • Repairs Entitlement Client (ProSeries only).
  • Repairs .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5.1.
  • Runs .NET Checker where you can manually verify the .NET installations.

Step 1: Download and install the Lacerte Tool Hub

  1. Close Lacerte.
  2. Download the Lacerte Tool Hub Install file. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  3. Open the file you downloaded (LacerteToolsHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the Tool Hub.

If you can't find the icon, do a search in Windows for Lacerte Tool Hub and select the program.

Step 2: Using the tool in the Lacerte Tool Hub

  1. From within the Lacerte Tool Hub, select Program.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the Component Repair tool for the applicable tax year range.

Step 1: Download and install the ProSeries Tool Hub

  1. Close ProSeries.
  2. Download the ProSeries Tool Hub Install file. Save the file  somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  3. Open the file you downloaded (ProSeriesToolsHub_Setup.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the Tool Hub.

If you can't find the icon, do a search in Windows for ProSeries Tool Hub and select the program.

Step 2: Using the tool in the ProSeries Tool Hub

  1. From within the ProSeries Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to run Component Repair tool.
The Component Repair tool normally takes somewhere between 5-25 minutes to run, but may take longer depending on your system and what the tool has to repair.
  1. Select the tool for the software you are using:
  2. You will be asked to Run, Save, or Cancel.
  3. Click the arrow on the Save button.
  4. Select Save As from the menu that appears.
  5. Select Desktop.
  6. Click the Save button.
  7. Locate the tool on your desktop:
    • Lacerte_Component_Repair_Tool
    • ProSeries_Component_Repair_Tool
  8. Right-click on it.
  9. Select Run as administrator.
    • If you do not run the tool as administrator, it may not be able to resolve the issue.
    • f this option is missing, select Open.
  10. Click Run, Yes, or Allow depending on what the windows say.
  11. Several different windows will open and close on your screen while the tool runs.
  12. When the tool has finished, you will be prompted to restart the computer.
  13. Once the computer has turned back on, verify that the issue has been resolved.

The Lacerte PDF Repair tool should correct PDF printing issues in any tax year after 2002. The ProSeries PDF Repair tool is primarily for tax year 2006-2010, and only repairs the Client Checklist function in 2011 and 2012.

  • Ends ProSeries/Lacerte background processes.
  • Removes temporary printer files.
  • Stops/starts Print Spooler service.
  • Ends Spoolsv.exe and SLPwow64.exe printer processes, these files can cause ProSeries/Lacerte to hang when saving a PDF.
  • Uninstalls and reinstalls ProSeries/Lacerte/DMS PDF Converters.
  • Renames the Amyuni300 and 400 dlls as well as removes them from the registry.

Steps to Run the PDF Tool:

Download the PDF Repair Utility

  1. Select the tool for the program you are having trouble printing from:
  2. You will be asked to Run, Save, or Cancel.
  3. Select the arrow on the Save button.
  4. Select Save As from the menu that appears.
  5. Select Desktop.
  6. Click the Save button.
  7. Locate the tool on your desktop:
    • LacertePDF_450_Tool
    • ProSeriesPDFTool
  8. Right-click on it.
  9. Select Run as administrator.
    • If you do not run the tool as administrator, it may not be able to resolve the issue.
    • If this option is missing, select Open.
  10. Select OK, Run, Yes, or Allow depending on what the windows say.
  11. Press any key to continue.
  12. Re-open the Lacerte or ProSeries software, and verify that it is working.

Run the PDF Repair Utility from the Lacerte Program

  1. While in the Lacerte program, press the F10 key or go to the Help menu and select Troubleshoot.
  2. On the Technical Support Information window, click the PDF Repair icon. (Second button from the right)
  3. Click Yes to close the program and PDF Repair Utility will automatically start.
