Troubleshooting DMS EFcreate Error: Cannot Create File

SOLVEDby IntuitUpdated October 13, 2023

The following error generates when trying to save a scanned file in the Document Management System:

"EFcreate Error: Cannot Create file X:\ (DMS Database Directory)"

The scanned document/PDF is created in the database, but the size of the file is 0KB and can't be opened.

How do I resolve this error?

To resolve this error, you need to temporarily delete the DMS folder.

Follow these steps to temporarily delete the DMS folder:

  1. Close the error message
    • DMS should remain open.
  2. Within DMS, delete the 0KB file that was created from the scan.
  3. Close DMS.
  4. On your keyboard, press the Windows keyR to open the Run prompt.
  5. Type %TEMP% and press Enter.
  6. Inside the Temp Directory that opens, delete the DMStemp folder.
  7. Open DMS.
  8. Try to scan again.

If the steps above don't resolve the issue, check Security and Permissions on the DMS Database folder as well as the DMS shortcut/Icon on the desktop. Make sure all users have full permissions and full security rights to the database—as well as DMS itself.
