EasyACCT is running slow or locks up

EasyACCT is running slow or locks up

What is happening?

The program is slow to respond, especially moving between screens or posting.

How can I fix it?

  1. Check permissions on the shared data folder.
    • All Users must have Power User rights or above to access EasyACCT data effectively.
    • Permissions must be set by the Network Administrator or IT professional.
  2. Delete Temp files, Temporary Internet Files and Cookies.
    • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Select the drive you want to clean up: C: drive, followed by or any network drives.
      • Wait for the Disk Cleanup window to pop up with the list of files to delete.
      • Select at least the Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin, and Temporary files.
      • Select OK, then Delete Files.
  3. If you are using the Automatic Posting feature, disable it for the modules affected.
    • Go to the Company Wizard > Automatic Posting Options> uncheck the affected modules.
      • Printing a G/L Distribution Report will be necessary to post.
  4. Shorten long data paths by shortening the names of folders and subfolders.
    • Eliminate spaces and characters in the data path.
      • Note!  The Current Data Path MUST begin with a drive letter.
      • UNC paths are not sufficient in EasyACCT (any path that starts \ must be mapped to a drive letter).
      • See Accessing EasyACCT Data From Network for mapping instructions.
  5. Reboot workstation and server.
  6. If the data is on a network drive, copy the company to the C: drive to test the speed.
    • If the data runs faster on the workstation, there is a connection issue.
  7. Test the speed of the activity by using the AAA Sample Office Supply Corporation 001 from the EASYWSAMPLE directory as a comparison.
  8. Disable Anti Virus to test speed.
  9. Disable Firewalls to test speed (Windows, Anti-Virus, Router).
  10. Limit the number of companies in a data path to 30.
    • Create separate folders to reduce the size of the database in each folder.
  11. Server maintenance processes should be set to run in the off- hours, including backing up EasyACCT data files.
  12. Disable any Mirrored Image or Mirrored file services.
  13. Disable Anti-Virus programs running on both the workstation and the server.
    • Avoid scanning the same data at the same time.  Set one to scan only when directed manually.
  14. Close Company files when finished and close EasyACCT at the end of the day, preferably shutting down the computer.
  15. Keep the workstation maintained by running System Tools > Disk Cleanup.
    • Where practical (hard drive of <500gb), do the Disk Defragmentation.
      • Microsoft Disk Defragmenter program requires 15% free space on the hard drive to run.
        • If necessary, eliminate files and programs that are no longer needed until Defrag can run.
  16. If another program is known to cause EasyACCT degradation, close that program before running EasyACCT.
    • Eliminate unnecessary programs at startup to free up system resources.
      • Use the Windows tool MSCONFIG to disable automatically starting programs in the startup folder.
