Set or Change Default Email Program

You can use the Send via Email feature to attach a client file to an email and send the file to another user.  When using this feature, the program calls on your default e-mail program to send the client file.  If your e-mail program does not launch, make sure the it is set a the default e-mail program.

Solution

The Send via E-Mail feature works with 32-bit email programs that are MAPI-compliant.  MAPI-compliant e-mail programs include, but are not limited to:
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Outlook Express
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Thunderbird

Important!: Web-based email services such as AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, Outllook.com, Gmail, etc are not MAPI-compliant and will not work with the Send via E-Mail feature.

To set your MAPI-compliant email program as the default e-mail client, do the following.

  1. Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Default Programs.

  2. Click Set your default programs

  3. Under Programs, click the e‑mail program you'd like to use, and then click Set this program as default.

  4. Click OK.
