IRS News Release: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/hurricane-ida-tax-relief-extended-to-february-15-for-part-or-all-of-six...

Tax relief for taxpayers and businesses in disaster situations postpones various tax filing and payment deadlines, extending the deadline to January 3, 2022.

  • This date extension occurs during the annual Individual MeF shutdown period which historically occurs in late November when the system is updated in preparation for the next tax year which may affect the ability to e-file these returns (e-file historically re-opens in late January).
  • During an MeF shutdown period, all returns must be signed and mailed to the IRS, any eSignatures will not be valid.

At this time there is no indication there will be a change to this shutdown period. We will continue to monitor any confirmation from the IRS and will keep you updated.

To determine whether your taxpayer/business is included in this extended deadline, see

Lacerte will begin blocking Individual 1040 e-filed returns on November 20, 2021, at 9:00 p.m. EST, to ensure all returns in our system have time to process prior to the IRS shutdown.
