Victims of the recent winter storms in Texas may postpone tax payments and filings with original deadlines beginning February 11, 2021. Businesses and individuals affected will have until June 15, 2021 to file or pay.

This includes business return filings normally due on March 15, individual returns normally due April 15, quarterly estimates typically scheduled for April 15, and calendar year exempt organization returns normally due May 17.

This disaster relief covers the entire state of Texas. Taxpayers in other states impacted by the storms will be eligible for the same relief if a similar FEMA disaster declaration is issued in their area.

The IRS will automatically apply this relief to taxpayers living in the affected area, with no action needed. Taxpayers who live outside the affected area, but whose records necessary for timely filing are located in the disaster area,  need to contact the IRS by phone for relief.

For more information on who qualifies for this relief and other tax relief available to storm victims, see the IRS News Release.
