Need the ability to print the Form 1040-V with the Government Copy

JulieB2020

There is no customization available to add the Form 1040-V form to the Government Copy. This copy is used by us to communicate the "action items" to the client. We can include the letter, invoice, Form 8879, and the Form 1040-ES payment vouchers, but why in the world we can't also include the voucher for the balance due for this year is beyond me.

In essence, we can provide vouchers to pay for next year's taxes but not this year's taxes.  To do that, we need to either single print the 1040-V form separately or pull it out of the Client Copy where it should nt be anyway. When printing paper returns, this was a little irritating, but now that we are going paperless, it is a real problem! we can't pull the form out of the pdf version of the client copy and if we go the extra step of printing it separately, it is still not a part of the Government Copy file, and we have to explain that to the client.  Can you please just add the 1040V payment voucher as a lin

You are saying government copy.  My system says filing copy and the 1040V is part of that packet.

Also do you know that you can set your printer as pdf and then print any of the forms that you want directly from the form.  (Yes this can be cumbersome, but it works.)

My Government copy produces the 1040-V in the Government copy on an e-filed return. Not sure the exact setting but it does work (and has for a decade or better).

Thanks, Bob, I will look again, but I even called Lacerte tech support and they confirmed they still don't have that option. Weird. Are you using the Lacerte desktop version or have you migrated to the cloud version?  I will also look to the "file copy" options, but we do use that for different purposes

I am using Desktop. To get your desired result go to Options, Items to Print, Government, and in the Print Order, Federal Return section make sure Federal Tax Return is checked. Since you do e-filing make sure to also go down in the Print Settings and make sure you answer Yes to Only e-file Forms in Complete Return. You can either print a complete return or a government filing copy and get the 1040-V. Let me know if it works for you.

Thank you so much Bob!  That worked!  Crazy that we've tried so many different combinations of options but apparently not that one.  I really appreciate you solving this issue for us.

Have an awesome tax season.

Your welcome. You may want to join the Lacerte Tax Users Group (LTUG) over at groups.io. This is a very helpful, active group of Lacerte users. There are almost 1,200 users. Many users have decades of experience and are very willing to answer Lacerte related questions.

Thank you Bob for your help. I have called LaCerte for 3-4 years and no one knew how to resolve this issue for me.
