we enter a preparer name in the staff preparer input in the client information screen for every return. We do this so we know what staff member is preparing the returns, tracking, etc. Does anyone know if there is a way when transferring clients to 2020 that the information (preparer name) in this field will not carryforward to 2020? Otherwise we have to go into each client and delete the name in 2020 program.

When you pro forma, Choose Custom, when you get to the screen that says Choose the Information to Transfer for Each Client, uncheck the box that says Preparer Number.
That's all I see. I don't know if it will also prevent Staff Preparer from pro forma'ing. And you may want Preparer to roll but not Staff Preparer.
Try it with one client and see what happens.
