Intuit Link

I'm new to Intuit Link.  Do my clients have to have an Intuit account of their own to use this feature?

Welcome to the Community, @huntresscpa!  This is a good and fundamental question, even though it's not asked often.

First of all, Intuit does not create different login credentials for the same user for different products.  Instead, the same login credentials may be used to sign up for and access different Intuit products or services (e.g. Lacerte, QBO, Intuit Link, TurboTax, etc.) - unless, of course, the individual decides to sign up for these using different email addresses.

Some may not realize but Intuit Link is really a common portal between your firm and your clients.  Both you and your clients are end-users and each must have their own account set up.  If your client had used TurboTax or QuickBooks (or Intuit Link with another accountant) previously, he/she can simply use the same login credentials to access Intuit Link.  Alternatively, your client can sign up for a new Intuit account using a different email address.

THE key to using Intuit Link as your firm's client portal is to ensure you send the invitation to the same email address your client will be using to access Intuit Link for your engagement.  That's how Intuit Link knows to exchange messages and documents with that client's account under that particular email address.  Problems usually occur when a client later decides to switch to a different email address - it is not impossible but let's cross that bridge when you get there.

Hope this helps.
