I am trying to create a custom filter based on the client status. I would like to see all tax returns with a status that does not equal "filed".
When I try to create the custom filter and then the custom group specifications, I try:
Category - Client status
Field - Current status
Compare - Is not
But no Value pops up and I cannot enter a value. Am I picking the wrong category/field?

The last couple of years Lacerte did something to make custom filters really iffy. It sounds like you are doing the correct approach.
Why not just use the client status column in your display and click on that column to sort?
