Go to https://www.sos.ca.gov/business-programs/business-entities/

and search for your client.  That should give you the number, if it exists.

Thanks, but the SOS generates 7 digits numbers for corporations starting with a C, and limited liability companies are issued a 12 digit number starting with the 4 digit year when it was organized.  I have checked the website and it is a 7 digit number starting with a C.

Enter as State ID Number (not SOS #)

CA SOS # only gives 7-digit, but Lacerte requests 12-digit for e-file.  Otherwise, the e-file has been rejected.  Can any one help?

The program does not allow for e-File if the SOS# is 7-digit for S-corp/C-corp.  CA ID does not work for e-File too.  Can any one help?
