We used to have some good articles, but I can't seem to find them anymore. Here is my guess - "We dummied up a 1040 to go with your CA RDP return, since you must attach one. It is not what was actually filed for federal purposes, but it will get the CA return to process." I probably went a bit berserk on my response, but I don't have all the information you do.
