Fatal Diagnostics will prevent the electronic record from being created.
There are three categories of diagnostics;
- Fatal - generated when fundamental information is missing from a return. These diagnostics will prevent the electronic return from being created.
- Critical - generated when critical information may affect the outcome of the return. These can be both fatal and informational. These diagnostics will sometimes prevent the electronic return from being created.
- Informational - generated when information has been entered that could affect the outcome of the return, and does not require a change or adjustment.
Note: Diagnostics related to an e-file return will be noted as 'e-file'.
