Individual Form 2210 is generating in Lacerte when not required or applicable

SOLVEDby Intuit23Updated June 13, 2023

This article will help you if Form 2210 is generating even though it isn't required. None of the program settings or overrides are set to force this form, and no boxes are checked in Part II of the form.

Why is this happening?

Per the IRS Instructions for Form 2210, even if the taxpayer isn't required to file Form 2210, there may be a penalty to pay. While the form instructs that the IRS will figure this penalty and send a bill for any unpaid amounts, the program still calculates the worksheet at the end of the form to determine if there will be a penalty.

If a penalty is calculated on this worksheet, Form 2210 will generate even though the form isn't required. This is simply to provide helpful information to the taxpayer regarding the penalty amount that would be billed by the IRS and isn't to indicate that this form must be sent to the government. Taxpayers and preparers should read instructions carefully to determine if the form needs to be submitted or not.

Please note the following:

  • The form won't be included with e-file returns unless one or more of the boxes in Part II are checked.
  • Even if the form isn't required, it'll print out if generated. You aren't required to send it in unless applicable.
  • You can suppress this form if it isn't required, either in Settings or on Screen 8 - Penalties & Interest (2210).
