The following critical e-file diagnostic is generating in Intuit Lacerte:
- e-file: Qualifying dependent #X: The social security number of the qualifying person matches the social security number of another qualifying person. This is not allowed for electronic filing. (ref. #4342)
Resolving diagnostic ref. 4342:
This diagnostic generates when a Social Security number (SSN) you've entered matches the SSN of another person. To resolve this diagnostic:
- Go to Screen 2, Dependents.
- In the field Social Security #, Make sure each SSN entered is unique.
- Go to Screen 33, Dependent Care Credit (2441).
- Make sure the SSN matches the dependent entered (or selected).
- Make sure that each dependent is entered only once.
- Go to Screen 38, Education Credits / Tuition Deductions.
- Make sure the SSN matches the person entered.
- Make sure that each student is entered only once.
