Entering a Prior or Current Year Installment Sale (Form 6252)

How to enter a Prior or Current Year Installment Sale on Form 6252 in the Proconnect Tax Online (PTO) program.

To enter a Current Year Installment Sale on Form 6252 perform the following:

  1. On the Input Return (Enter Data in TY2012 and prior) tab, select Income, then the second Schedule D/4787/etc. input screen.
  2. Fill out the quick entry grid with the Description of Property , Date Acquired, and the Date Sold information.
  3. Click on Details to expand the input. (In TY2012 and prior, press on Edit Details if not already expanded)
  4. Scroll down to the section labeled Current Year Installment Sale (6252), click on it, then enter any other information that applies to the installment sale.

NOTE: The program only generates Form 6252 when the transaction produces a gain. If there is a loss, a worksheet will generate showing the calculation

To enter a Prior Year Installment Sale on the form 6252 perform the following:

  1. On the Input Return (Enter Data in TY2012 and prior) tab, select Income, then Schedule D/4787/etc. from the list.
  2. Fill out the quick entry grid with the Description of Property , Date Acquired, and the Date Sold information.
  3. Click on Details to expand the input. (In TY2012 and prior, press on Edit Details if not already expanded)
  4. Scroll down to the section labeled Prior Year Installment Sale (6252), click on it, then enter any other information that applies to the installment sale.
