E-filing state tax returns when attachment of other state return is required

SOLVEDby Intuit9Updated 2 weeks ago

ProConnect Tax will automatically include the other state tax return with the state return in the e-file when required as specified in the state's form instructions and e-file specifications. The program will generate a diagnostic if a copy of another state's return can't be included but is required by the state. If this diagnostic generates, save a PDF copy of the other state's tax return and attach the PDF.

If you receive an error message along the lines of "You currently don't have permissions to [action]. Contact your firm's Admin for authorization," either when trying to create new returns or when e-file roles have changed for tax year 2023, see here for how your firm Admin can resolve it.

Follow these steps to attach a PDF of the other state's tax return:

  1. Go to theInput Return tab.
  2. From the left of the screen, select General and choose Electronic Filing.
  3. Choose e-file PDF/Miscellaneous from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the top right of the screen, click the blue e-file Attachment link.
  5. Under Electronic Return File Attachments, click the Attach PDF button.
  6. Locate the PDF copy of the other state's return and click Open.
