Importing financial institution data into ProSeries with Tax Import

ProSeries Tax Import allows you to quickly and accurately download W-2, 1098 and 1099 forms directly into the 2023 1040 return. This feature is available in both ProSeries Basic and ProSeries Professional as part of your annual FastPath license.

Tax Import is available for the current tax year up until November when it is closed for the next tax season. It is then restarted in mid-January to handle the current year's returns.

If the taxpayer has enabled extra security on their financial institution, (such as two factor authentication) Tax Import won't be able to connect. This will generate an error: A popup blocker prevented us from connecting to your bank. Turn off your popup blocker, then try again.

If you receive this error, the source documents will need to be manually entered into ProSeries.


There are two ways you can download financial institution data from your client's online accounts:

You can invite clients to download financial institution data by email

Inviting the client and importing is an easy three-part process:

  1. Open ProSeries to the 1040 HomeBase View
  2. Highlight the client you are working with.
  3. From the Import menu, choose Financial Institution Downloadthen Request 1099 and W2 data from client...
    • For ProSeries Basic: Go to the Import menu, select Tax Import, and then choose Import Client Data from Online Accounts.
  4. Review the client's name and email address. Changes made here will not change the Federal Information Worksheet.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Review the default text to the taxpayer. ${FirstName} ${LastName} will pull the taxpayer's first and last name from the Client Information. You can customize the text and who shows as the Tax Preparer.
  7. Ensure your email is present on the Email address for notifications and click Next.
  8. Verify the Email address for notifications contains your email address.
  9. Review what will be sent to the taxpayer and click Send to email the taxpayer.
  1. From the email, the taxpayer should click the Get Started button.
  2. On the Intuit Tax Form Dropoff website sign in with their Intuit Account Login.
    • If they do not have an Intuit Account Login they should click on the New to Intuit? Create an account link.
    • If the invite is sent to a Married Filing Joint client, only one login is necessary, your client does not need a separate login for the Taxpayer and Spouse for the dropoff website.
  3. Select the Document Type to download:
    • W-2
    • 1099

  1. Click on Start download
  2. Enter the required information:
    • If importing a W-2:
      1. Enter the EIN from the W-2.
      2. Click Continue.
      3. Enter the Control Number from the W-2.
      4. Enter the Social Security Number from the W-2.
      5. Enter the amount from Box 1 of the W-2.
      6. Click Continue. They will get a confirmation saying "The following forms were successfully sent to your tax preparer."
    • If importing a 1099 or 1098:
      1. Search for the Financial Institution. A list of the available forms and institutions can be found by in this article.
      2. Click on Continue.
      3. Enter the User ID and password for the financial institution.
      4. Click Continue. They will get a confirmation saying "The following forms were successfully sent to your tax preparer."

  1. Click Send More if they have more then one document to send or Sign Out.
  1. On the 1040 HomeBase View, review the Tax Import column to see the status of your clients.
  2. Once the 99 column has a down arrow in it, open the tax return to complete the import.
  3. Check the forms you want to import and click Import Selected Forms.

You can instantly download financial institution data if your client is in the office

Activating the client and importing the data is an easy three-part process:

  1. Open ProSeries to the 1040 HomeBase View
  2. Highlight the client you are working with.
  3. From the Import menu, choose Financial Institution Downloadthen Import 1099 and W2 data now...
    • For ProSeries Basic: Go to the Import menu, select Tax Import, and then choose Import Client Data from Online Accounts.
  4. Click Continue.

  1. On the Intuit Tax Form Dropoff website sign in with your MyAccount Login.
  2. Select the Document Type to download:
    • W-2
    • 1099

  1. Click on Start download
  2. Enter the required information:
    • If importing a W-2:
