Exporting depreciation data from Lacerte to a file

SOLVEDby Intuit169Updated December 12, 2023

Lacerte offers the ability to export client depreciation data to a file.

Before you start:

It's recommended to create and save an Excel spreadsheet before starting the export, this makes it easier to find the file when browsing to save it.

To export the data:

  1. Select the client file containing the depreciation data to be exported.
  2. From the Client menu, select Export then select Export Depreciation to File.
  3. Choose the directory location to save the exported depreciation data and then select OK. The default location to save the exported depreciation data is Documents.
    • The program calculates the return and exports the depreciation data into a comma-separated file (.CSV) for the selected clients. If a client's return doesn't calculate, the program won't export that client's depreciation data.
  4. If exporting multiple files, review the Depreciation Data Report to see a list which files were successfully exported and the file names for those returns.
  5. Select Print Report for a paper copy of the exported files or select Close when finished reviewing the report.

The exported depreciation data (.CSV file) can now be accessed using another application, such as Microsoft Excel.

To open the data in Excel

  1. Open Microsoft Excel.
  2. From the File dropdown menu, choose open.
  3. Go to the .csv file.
  4. Make sure the file type in the lower half of the window is set to csv, or you may not see it.
  5. Once it's opened in Excel it can be saved as an Excel file.

Once the file has been exported to Excel, the assets can be imported into another client file using Fixed Asset Manager. For FAQs regarding the use of Fixed Asset Manager, refer to Common questions about Fixed Asset Import.
