Sorting the Clients list in Lacerte

This article will help you change how the clients are displayed on the screen, how they are sorted, add/remove columns to the view, and adjust the size of the columns displayed.

No more dragging columns to sort -- you are now able to sort your clients with a single click. The Lacerte Clients list has expanded functionality with the ability to keep your preferred view while being able to sort your clients by clicking on any column header irrespective of their position.

  1. Go the Settings menu and select Options.
  2. Click on the Display tab.
  3. In the Client View section, click one of the following:
    • All Clients to make changes to the All Clients view.
    • e-file Clients to make changes to the e-file Clients view.
    • e-file Center to make changes to the e-file Center View.
    • Tax Import to make changes to the Tax Import View.
    • e-Org Clients to make changes only to the the e-Org Clients view.
    • Tax Law Impact to view clients affected by tax law changes.
    1. In the Sort by: section, click on the drop-down arrow and click on the column by which you want to sort the client list. If the column you want to sort by is not in the Sort by list, you can select it from the Available list and add it to the Display section.

  1. Click OK.

The program automatically moves the column you select to the top of the Display list. The program displays the column you select first in the Client list and sorts the clients according to the information in that column. For example, if you select Client Full Name, last name first, the program displays the Client Full Name column first and then sorts the clients alphabetically by their last names.

To add a Display column to the Clients list:

  1. Click on Settings.
  2. Click on Options.
  3. Click on the Display tab.
  4. Select All Clients from the Client View drop down menu.

    • To make changes to a specific view, click on the drop-down arrow and select the desired view.
    1. Click on the + to expand a section or click on Expand to expand all categories under the Available section.
      • Click on Collapse to collapse all.

  1. Click on the item to add to the Display column.
  2. Click on to add the item to the Display section.
  3. Click OK to save your changes.

To remove a Display column from the Clients list:

  1. Click on Settings.
  2. Click on Options.
  3. Click on the Display tab.
  4. Click on the item under the Display section.
  5. Click on to remove the item.
  6. Click OK to save your changes.

To adjust the column order displayed on the Clients list:

  1. Click on Settings.
  2. Click on Options.
  3. Click on the Sort by dropdown menu.
  4. Click on the item from the Display section.
  5. Click on the Up or Down button to sort the order of the Display column.
    • Lacerte automatically moves the column you selected to the top of the Display section and is displayed first on the Clients list.
  1. Click OK to save your changes.

Notes:

  • To let the Lacerte program adjust the column widths, check the box, Automatically adjust columns widths. Otherwise, uncheck this box to manually adjust columns on the Clients list.
  • Check the Left Column Fixed box to display the left column even when scrolling to the right.
    • When the Left Column Fixed checkbox is checked, you will be unable to edit the width of this column. In order to edit the width of the first column:
      • Move another column from your display to replace the first column. This will allow you to edit the width freely. When satisfied with the width you can return the column.
