PDF is not created when printing from Lacerte to DMS

When attempting to print to Document Management System (DMS) from Lacerte Tax, the Lacerte Tax program appears to have sent the PDF print job to DMS but the PDF file is not created in the DMS client folder.

This issue is often solved for by running the Lacerte PDF Tool.

If the PDF Tool does not to resolve the issue, you may need to manually change settings in the DMS PDF Printer.

To do so:
  1. On your keyboard, press Windows key and R.  In the Run prompt, type control printers and click OK.
  2. Right-click DMS PDF Printer and choose Printer Properties.
  3. Click the Preferences button toward the bottom of the screen.
  4. Click the Destination tab and ensure that File system is selected and click the Options button, making sure the following settings are correct:
  • Destination File is set to Document Title
  • Default Directory has the path set to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\DMS\Temp
  1. Click the OK button and OK again to close the DMS PDF Printer Properties.
  2. Return to Lacerte and print to DMS again.

If the PDF Tool does not resolve your issue, and have already taken the additional steps above, most issues with PDF printing in Lacerte or DMS can also be solved for by removing the PDF printer and reinstalling/Repairing DMS.

To do so:
  1. Navigate to Devices and Printers through Control Panel.
  2. Locate the DMS PDF Printer, right-click and choose Remove Device or Delete Print Queue, from there choosing the DMS PDF Printer if it is stacked on another printer driver.
  3. Next, Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\DMS and run the DMSsetup.exe file, making sure to choose the Repair radio button.
  4. Return to Lacerte and print to DMS again.
