Error: Fatal Error During Installation (1603) Attempting to Install ProSeries

Attempting to install ProSeries Professional or Basic editions will result in one of the following errors:

  • Error: Fatal Error During Installation (1603)
  • Error: General Windows Installer engine error. Increase disk space requirement in Setup.ini and try again.

Typically these errors will occur when the ProSeries Entitlement client fails to install. This is the Intuit component that allows some of our products to license with our system. It uses Microsoft .NET Framework in order to function.

When errors such as this occur during the install of ProSeries, the root cause is commonly a missing or corrupt version of .NET Framework. Different versions of .NET Framework are used depending on the year of ProSeries and the version of Windows. This is why one year of ProSeries may install fine but another year may have these errors.

Installing and/or repairing Microsoft .NET framework:

  1. Click on the OK button to close the error.
  2. Allow the install to complete.
  3. Close the ProSeries program if it opens after the install has completed.
  4. In the search bar on the tools menu at the bottom, search Control Panel.
  5. Under Programs, select Uninstall Programs.
  6. Click on Turn Windows features on or off on the left side panel.
  7. Check the checkbox next to .NET 4.6 Advanced Services and then click on the OK button.
  8. Close Control Panel.

  7. Check the checkbox next to .NET 4.5 Advanced Services and then click on the OK button.
  8. If prompted, choose to Download files from Windows Update.
